Financial Support
To help even more students get the best out of going to university or college, there is financial support available - more than you think. The financial help on offer is designed to let you make the most of your time at university or college, helping you to cover your costs whilst you're studying.
Tuition fee loans
Every student is entitled to a loan for tuition fees. This is paid directly to the University or college and doesn't need to be paid back until after you have finished your course and are earning over £15,000.00 per year.
Maintenance loans
As well as loans for fees there are also student loans for living costs available. The rates of loan available depend on where you live and study, and the amount of maintenance grant you receive. Like tuition fee loans, maintenance loans do not have to be re-paid until you have finished your course and are earning over £15,000.00 per year.
Maintenance grants
Depending on your household income, you could apply for a maintenance grant. Maintenance grants are designed to help cover the costs of things like books, accommodation and food. Approximately two-thirds of all new full time students will be entitled to a full or partial maintenance grant.
Bursaries
Universities and colleges offer non-repayable bursaries and other financial support to students. The amount of support varies, depending on where you study and your personal circumstances. Check out university and college prospectuses or websites to see what they are offering.
Other help and support
There are other means of support available if you have a disability or are caring for a child or adult dependant. The level of support available depends on your personal circumstances and where you choose to study.
